Canada and the US are just too damn big to have a meaningful group of people travel to away games.

In the UK when you watch your football team at an opposing team's venue you will be surrounded by your fellow supporters, because as you have mentioned, you have fan segregation, something that unfortunately is still needed from time to time. It's a tribal thing, You get to shout and scream with people and because these people have travelled to see the game you know they are more likely to be hardcore fans.

It's no coincidence that the games at SBP with the "best" atmosphere are when the Habs or dirty stinking leaves play, there are fans there supporting both sets of teams. It can be difficult to get up or charged for a game when there is no focal point to push back against you.

This isn't an issue just for Ottawa or just for the NHL. I found the change in atmosphere to be palpable also when I watched NFL or MLB live as well. It was different when I wa dragged down to Carolina to watch a NASCAR race, that was pretty intene - mainly because i feared for my life and my backside being surrounded by 100,000 drunk rednecks (i knew i shouldn't have watched Deliverance before going)

BM is trying to rush him a bit, hoping that learning in Ottawa will be faster than in Bingo or Sweden. Maybe when "uncle Filip" is back, it will be easier to learn...although there won't be many body checks thrown by that pairing. I trust Murray to make the right call as the season progresses and Clouston to manage the minutes properly. Burning the rookie year on his entry-level deal doesn't seem to be a concern for Murray as he seems to be fairly certain that Cowen and maybe even Wiercioch might stick next year, so he doesn't want too many rookies and too many RFAs in the same years.
Karlsson is so darn small, but so darn smart and skilled too...he just needs some time to grow in every way. Defensemen take time.

Picard has played well since he came in and Carkner is certainly needed during this part of the season for toughness and generally being ace. The guy who should be sitting when all the D are fit and healthy is Campoli.

Only a few days until the self proclaimed "off season winners" (for the 3rd time in four years) take the ice and shut these lemmings up! I expect more, and more creative, Leaf bashing this year.

- Give Stooli 3 weeks to actually watch a game before replacing him with an angry tattooed pumpkin in some tee-shirt stolen from a 17 year old.
