Season 3: Episode 29

April 21, 2008 - 8:10 PM | Permalink

That's a Wrap!

Well, this is it, the final episode of the year, and a crazy year it was. We're all pretty beaten down by what we've seen since December and as strange as it may seem, we're actually a little relieved that it's over. We need a break!

But before we hit the golf course for the summer, we give you one more helping of the Underground, complete with a fresh-from-the-beach Stooli. In this episode you'll get the final two games of the Pittsburgh series:

Pittsburgh 4 - Ottawa 1
Pittsburgh 3 - Ottawa 1

If nothing else, these two games cemented the status of Daniel Alfredson as a Golden Gawd after coming back to play on a torn MCL and with a cracked vertebrae. He is all a team could want in a leader.

However, many others were quite noticeably unnoticeable and that is a cause for concern. We'll give you our thoughts on the individual performances and how they may effect next year's roster.

We take a look back at the season as a whole, decipher the press conferences and give you our thoughts on what we'd like to see over the summer and next season.

And finally, we'd like to once again thank all of you who have become part of our on-line family and helped make this podcast the success that it has become. Your support and participation have meant so much to us that we can never fully express our gratitude. We don't yet know what the show will look like next season but you can be sure it will be back in one form or another and we hope you'll be there with us again. Until then, have a great summer and stay safe.

Rogers Goes Underground!

With special guest, Team 1200 TGOR member and public address announcer for the Ottawa Senators, Stuntman Stu, filling in for the vacationing Stooli. We are also joined by Ottawa Senators correspondent for Rogers Sportsnet and host of Molsons Senators Overtime, Ian Mendes.

We were back in front of the cameras again this week, down at the Rogers TV studios, filming another pilot for a potential future TV show. All feedback so far has been positive but we can certainly tell you it's a lot different from what we're used to doing. Time will undoubtedly help us get more comfortable in these new settings. Having Stu and his media experience along side was a definite bonus but you can rest assured, all future vacations at play-off time have been banned.

Of course, the big topic of this show was the first two games of the Sens-Pens first round series:

Ottawa 0 - Pittsburgh 4
Ottawa 3 - Pittsburgh 5

A tough start for the Sens but certainly not unexpected. With the way they have been playing and the devastating injuries they have suffered, being down 2-0 shouldn't be a shock to many.

What has been a surprise is the play of Martin Gerber. He has been absolutely stellar and we discuss his play. We also spend some time on the lack of emotion from both the team and it's fans so far in this post season.

And, once again, Gary Roberts is front and center in a Sens play-off series. How does this guy keep doing it to us? We'll struggle with this topic too just as the Sens struggled with him on the ice.

We finish off the show with your e-mails and a phone call from a Sens fan in Pittsburgh, ground zero as it were.

The Sens showed late in game two if they really bring it, they can compete with the Pens. We can only hope that coming home they can build on that strong finish and climb back into the series. Let's get the SBP rocking with chants of "GO SENS GO" and "ALFIE! ALFIE!" chants. Now that would be cool and it can only inspire the troops!

ONE MISSION!

The End of the Regular Season, Thank God!

It was a very long, hard road this year and it ended with a whimper as the Sens backed into the playoffs thanks to, of all people, Jacques Martin and the Florida Panthers! But like many of you, we are just glad it's over, we're in and we can hope for some kind of miraculous turn-around now that the post season is here.

But we don't let our final regular season show go out with a whimper. There's lots of anger to go around this week and surprisingly (or maybe not) some of it is aimed directly at our own Sens. Stooli is still AWOL but the grit is still there as we address the big topics of the week: The cheap shots from the Leafs that cost us Fisher and Alfie, and the lack of response from the Sens to said cheap shots. Everyone has an opinion on these issues and you know we do too.

Along with the game in which we stomped those pathetic losers down the 401, there were two others to cover this week:

Montreal 3 - Ottawa 0
Ottawa 8 - Toronto Dirtbags 2
Boston 2 - Ottawa 1

That final game against the Bruins was pretty disappointing when you consider what was on the line: the SEASON! But what could top the vile repulsion we felt when we saw our Golden Gawd lying on the ice after a deliberate elbow to the head from Mark Bell, making him the second Sen to leave the game because of an unpenalized cheap shot from Bell. Maybe only one thing: the fact that he got away with it and paid no price what so ever. The lack of response can send a dangerous message across the league and some think it already has. Pittsburgh has been accused of throwing their last game in order to meet what they perceive as a soft Ottawa club. If that's not billboard material, nothing is. Will they rally around this and shove it right back up their Penguin butts. We'll know in about a week.

A major announcement on the status of our tv show, the winner of the hockey pool, a few voice mails and a ton of e-mails fill out this emotional show.

Have we mentioned penguins walk funny?
